About Marni Koelln
the art of Marni Koelln
Marni is a versatile artist who excels in a variety of mediums, winning awards for her coloured pencil, oils and pastels. With limited exposure, her work has been recognized with a Special Excellence award at the Harness Tracks of America Juried Show in Lexington, Ky., An Honourable mention at BC's Valley Fine Arts Show, as well her award winning coloured pencil "On The Engine" was used on the Fraser Downs offical race program and marketing materials. Marni's work centers on her love for horses, her portfolio also includes a variety of portraits of dogs , cats and people.
In 1997 she earned a Graphic Design and Communications Diploma, and has worked as a freelance designer, and in the print industry as a graphics technician.
As a teenager she became involved in the racing industry as groom, pony girl and exercise rider. Working in the racing industry led her to live in all of the western provinces over the past 25 years. She has recently relocated to Airdrie, Alberta, Canada, with her husband, Jim. She has plans for further development and recognition of her talent as an equine artist through marketing and juried exhibits and to also enrich herself in the western culture.
Marni's hobbies include photography, trail riding "Lester", hiking with her JRT,"Smitty" and, of course, horseracing. They have a son, Sean, who lives in Calgary.
